I run a small home based business. Can I write off supplies paid for in cash if I have the receipt, or do I need a cancelled check /bank statement AND the receipt for a deduction?

I am a homemaker/freelance graphic designer. I typically work 3-4 hours a day from my home. I do not charge/get paid/accept any money for the work I do. I do this as Charity or volunteer work to help churches/new businesses/non-profit groups. I do purchase a lot of office supplies to complete all my projects. Are there any tax deductions that I could take advantage of? Is my situation considered to be a home-based business even though I do not accept payment?
Are freelancers required to have a business license? I live in Maryland.

This is a new venture in to western canada. I am told it is big in the USA and eastern canada. It is multi-level marketing, looks kind of like a pyrmaid, but am told it is not. It is investing in a company and their advertising market. You do not sell the products, but promote them and in turn you then have a home based business and therefore tax deductions. If anyone is familiar with this or has any information on United Pro media it would be appreciated

I’m considering a home-based business and I’m wondering how the taxes will differ compared to my current salary, assuming all other elements are remaining the same. (Please note, I’m not asking about the forms to use, how to submit tax information, or taking obscure deductions into consideration; I have already read up on all of these items.)
I currently have a salary of ,000. Based on what I actually bring home, roughly 35% of my paycheck currently goes to taxes (ridiculous, isn’t it?). If I were to stop my corporate job and do a home-based business full time, what % increase or decrease could I expect in taxes for a sole proprietor that makes enough money to qualify as income. Again, I’m not considering deductions like running a business out of my primary residence, business travel expenses, etc. I’m strictly comparing taxes to taxes.
It may not be possible as there are tons of factors to consider, but if anyone has insight, personal experience, or even a rough idea to guide me, that’d be great!

My husband and I have been planning to open a home based business for just over a year. Our plans are to open it by the end of 2008. My main concerns are taxes. We can not foresee our profits, but we are expecting under ,000 for the first year. It will just be my husband and I (no employees). What taxes will we have to pay?
We will have a separate building on our property which the business will be primarily run out of, can we use this for any deductions? I am looking for any information that will help us to get the business started and have everything run smoothly. Any help would be appreciated, the more detailed the better.

I just started a home based business that will probably give me tons of deductions for my taxes this year. I also work full time at another job that takes the normal taxes for a single person (1 exemption). Is it safe to have them stop takaing out taxes from my payckeck so I can have that money available to me?

I own a home based business of which I profited less than 00 this past year. I had some loss from deductions. 2005 I profited ,000 (so I claimed my income and itemized my deductions)…my question is I was told that if I make less than 00, I can’t itemize my deductions…is this true, do I not claim anything from my business this year?
