Hi folks, I do home based part-time consulting in addition to my full time job. While doing my taxes I realized that I can deduct the mileage spent going to Bank, Post Office, Client’s Office and Hardware Store. I didn’t not log my miles every time I got in and out of the car but my bank deposit proves my travel to the bank, my credit card purchases prove my travel to hardware store and my PO BOX proves that I had to go to post office to pickup the mail.
Is that enough proof to deduct my 700 miles for business errands for past year ?
My total number of miles for the year is about 9500 miles which out of that 3500 is for commuting to my full time job office.
I keep reading that IRS scrutinizes mileage deductions and it’s a well known red flag. Is it even worth taking the 0 deduction here, especially that I didn’t keep a detailed daily log and my only proofs are what I listed above?
I understand that each trip needs to be logged and proved. Can this log be created at the end of the year using the transaction information from Credit Card, Bank Account and online map to see the miles traveled ? Or does it HAVE to be logged on the same day of the trip.

I attend an American University in Beirut Lebanon. Yesterday, in my business class this "professor" told the class that in the U.S. "the Jews are allowed to claim anything they want to on their taxes, to make any sort of deduction they wish to make." His point being that when he tried, (a Muslim) he was turned down. So my question is …do you believe this and other such myths that the "Jewish" run the United States. And if you do, what is your basis, any solid proof? Why do you feel that way? (don’t say because the Americans hate the Muslims either, give some good answers)
hi_girlwow: Did I say I was Muslim? No. I do not belive I said that. I never said that I was from this part of the world either. I never said I agree with these ideas…I am American in fact…I have lived in the Middle East for 6 years. Did you read my question?
And what is with the blonde statement?
hi_girlwow: acctually your statement raises a good point. How people "assume" things" You "assumed" with no evidence except that I said I was Lebanon that I am Muslim and hate Jews. Kind of the same way they assume that everyone from the States feels the same way towards Muslims?

My fiancee got divorced in December of 2006. The child support was set during the divorce and his ex wife agreed to the amount. The next day she filed through the state to have the child support increased. She lives in New York, he lives in Montana.
Assuming that he would be paying a fair amount and more than willing to do so, he did not feel a need for legal representation and all proceedings took place over the phone. Boy was he in for a surprise!
After all was said and done, he is paying 00 a month and after taxes and child support, brings home 00 a month.
Now, living paycheck to paycheck (barely), he cannot even think about legal representation, let alone pay for it. His ex-wife made several false claims and told my fiancee that her lawyer said they would take him for everything he’s got.
Now we are expecting a child. I have been turned down for MedicAid due to his gross pay being too high to consider deductions. The baby is due in 6 weeks and we are in debt up to our ears. I finally convinced him to try for modification of child support but he is discouraged and has doubts about anything happening.
Any advice? We are pretty much clueless with this kind of thing. Didn’t exactly attend law school. The judge accepted written receipts from her for proof of expenses for the child. So, she could be coming up with this stuff off the top of her head. Can we call Better business bureau to find out if these places even exist?
Any advice would be very helpful. thank you
I apologize for making my fiancee sound like a deadbeat. apparantly i did. He is more than willing to pay as much as his son needs. We feel like his ex wife is benefitting from this for herself more than his son. His son is not benefitting from the entire amount being sent. Trust me.

Starting a Semi-Pro Football Team that will be operated much like a small business. Due to the limitations of a non-profit tax exemption (would need to be in business for at least a brief period of time to be eligible) I need to know what type of expenses I can deduct from taxes.
1) League Fees: 00
2) Travel Fees: Unknown Rate, but will be a flat rate because it will be a charter bus going from our Home Field to the visiting home field. Expenses going TO the home field for the charter will not be included in the deductions
3) Office space for the hotline and computer use for generating communication between customers and the business. Also used to maintain the businesses’ website, keeping financial records, etc.
4) Field Rental. Paying the field rent for Home games. 00
5) Ticket Costs. Paying for the printing of Tickets used for sales. 0
6)Equipment. Equipment for each player costs about 0. 0×40 = 000
7) Jerseys and Uniforms. 0 each player, 100×40 =00
Players will sign a release of liability to the team with proof of thier own health insurance.
Also I didnt mean to ask if anybody needed help, I am the one needing help heh

I Filed the 2006 And 2007 at the same Tax Office (J&R Tax Service). And I just Received a Notice Saying I owe The IRS Money! The IRS Is telling Me I had To many miscellaneous Deductions. I Did my taxes at this place because it was recommended to be by several people. And The Better Business Bureau The IRS says I claimed Deductions in the amount of ,999. But i Only Grossed ,000 that year. It Makes No Sense! I Dont remember Looking at the forms and i miss placed the copys them gave me. I Got Back about 00 on my return. It seemed about right because the year before i used turbo tax and i got back like 00. So i thought nothing of it. But Now im Being Told That I need To Come Up With Proof Of Those Deductions or Else Pay Back 00. WHAT SHOULD I DO? I Went To This Place Trusting Them To Do Things Right Because I Knew Nothing About Taxes. And Now Im Being Audited. Im Worried Because I also Did The 07 Return There And Im Thinking This could All Come Back Up Again IF They Did The 07 Taxes The same way! ADVICE?!?!?!?!

This is like the first time I’ve done my own taxes. I just started a small business earlier this year. So do I just leave line 41 in the negative on the 1040 individual income tax return? Is this going to cause a red flag to go up in the irs office? I’ve got proof to back my figures so I guess I shouldn’t worry………..right? (biting lip)

I own a business and I use a portion of my home as office space. Utilities are tax-deductible, but the electric bill comes in my mother’s name. My Question is this: Am I able to deduct that expense if can provide proof that it was paid for by me and that it was for electricity at the address that the home office is located? I understand how to calculate how much the deduction amount would be for, but I just wanted to make sure I could.
Thanks!
