Car expenses and working to claim on taxes?

I already know you cannot deduct you actual travel To and FROM work. But my husband’s job requires him to travel to different job sites (construction/maintenance) They always tell me I can’t deduct it either way but have been reading differently. It is his personal car and it does not use a business logo. The company also gives him /week for gas which is not taxed on his paystub. He spends more than , more around . I can’t find the information that shows if you "qualify" for a deduction and I also want to prove to the darn tax preparer that he indeed can deduct if he can. (Last year she said no, we couldn’t). Can someone please point me in the right direction or recommend a tax preparer that actually trains their preparers. We use Jackson Hewitt

Can someone deduct their personal washer & dryer as a work deduction? ?

Husband works for a trucking company who provides the uniforms. Wife does his laundry at home with the entire families (4 children, 2 adults). How can the washer and dryer be used as a deduction? Also, how can he deduct his milage to and from work in his own personal car? Also, I know a tax preparer who used her grandchild’s social security number to get her IRS PTIN. She has a criminal record for writing bad checks and has been in jail several times. She knows how to use the system. She has stolen her children (which are now young adults) and grandchildrens social security numbers for false purposes. Her children now have bad credit and cannot make a life for themselves because of what she has done. She also does taxes and uses inflated personal / business expensed, and false deductions. How can I find out more about this person and how she has gotten by with tax fraud? The individuals she does taxes for has received close to 10K for the last few years and they know she is doing illigal tax practices. They just want the money. Can someone tell me what I could do to stop this before the new tax season starts? I have warned the individuals of the illegial tax filings and warned them that they could be audited. They seems to have no concerns. How can I put a "bug" in with IRS to stop this. We as tax payers don’t deserve to have these people walking free and making thousands of dollars while we are barely making "ends meet." I need some answers.

IRS audit… is my tax preparer liable?

We’ve used the same tax preparer for many years. Nothing fancy, one of the big name franchise’s. Without any major deductions or audit flags we’ve been selected for an IRS audit. My wife and I are both W-2 workers and collectively earn just under 0K/yr, claim standard deductions (mortgage interest, kids (no EIC), nominal business expenses — less than 00/yr for business supplies, lunches, etc… and some mileage for business travel in a car that I own, (less than 10K miles per year and I’m in B2B sales), no investment losses or non-standard or "creative" deductions). Just seems so odd that we’d be selected for an audit. Is my tax preparer accountable to me for this audit? Is selection totally arbitrary or, are certain flags looked for?
Appreciate all the feedback. Yes, business expenses are unreimbursed, mileage claimed is mileage not paid by my employer for business travel in my own vehicle. And, perhaps "liable" was a poor choice of words. I think "accountable" is probably better. Just seems we pay a fair premium for sound advice in completing our returns and advising us on what we should include and what not to include (so to speak). I’d like to believe I’ve paid for a bit more than someone simply filling in the blanks with the info I’ve provided. Wouldn’t be much of a service if that were the case.

TAX GURUS! I'm being "examined" what info do I need to provide?

I just received a letter from the IRS stating that I need to provide more information about my Employee Business Expense, and certain miscellaneous Deductions which can be found on form 2106 lines 20,21,22. Most of which relates to vehicle mileage for a car that I do not own anymore.
It states that I need to submit the following, and then lists 8 different bullet points of different things (some of which I dont’ have). Am I expected to provide everything listed, or can I just provide what I have, for example a copy of the mileage, and that will suffice.

I plan to call my tax preparer tomorrow, but wanted to see if anyone had any insight as to what I can expect from here.

Any advice is appreciated! Thank you

Why are my coworkers' tax bills so much less than mine?

I am a 1099 worker (I am pretty sure I am an employee, but that is a different saga altogether) who has been working for this company for over two years and has always paid her "self-employment" taxes. For two years in a row I have used TurboTax and shelled out a hefty sum to get the "Business Suite" editions. And, my tax bill has never been less than ,600 for a ,000-,000 gross annual income. However, some of my coworkers (who make more than I do per year) use tax preparers who somehow are using the same deductions I claim (auto, medical expenses, school, etc) and yet their tax bills are somewhere around 0 for a larger annual gross income than mine. I am wondering how in the world this is possible, and if it is possible for me to use a tax preparer to somehow amend my last two years’ returns and get my money back.
Please, only people who actually know about this stuff and not just people guessing or being bored and making smart alecky comments. Much appreciated!
As for you, with the "canned response" which is prefaced with a needlessly abbrasive and insulting opener, I am pretty certain I will get fired if I do the SS-8. And seeing that I only make K a year, I don’t really have the time and resources to be unemployed while I go through lawsuits and whatever else. The job market, especially here, sucks and I have not been able to get a new job after aggressively trying for six months. So you can take your canned response and shove it.

Tax prep software for iMacs? Running only OS X 10.2.8 G3?

I’ve done the touchtone tax thing (over the phone) when I had virtually no deductions. I now have lots of deductions (mortgage, business, charitable), 2 W2s, no investments (sadly). Is there an inexpensive program that’ll work on this Mac for somebody really dumb with numbers and tax stuff? H&R block has a CD you can buy in the DRUGSTORE but it works on Mac OS X 3.1 or higher. I think maybe I need to buy the Jaguar upgrade (or Panther?– whichever is the newest one) to upgrade to 3.1. I don’t know. Any answers? Suggestions? My occasional tax lady charged me a LOT last year (and she scares me) so please don’t suggest a tax preparer.

when is a person who is under investigation for tax fraud notified that he is under investigation?

ok he’s under investigation, and the case has been referred for prosecution, this is already a known fact. so, when is he going to be notified that he’s under investigation, if at all, and at what point do they arrest? if at all. it’s for tax fraud, lying about deductions, money laundering, drug dealing, etc… oh and they just found out that his "tax preparer" has been committing fraud for years with all his clients including this guy… and ordered him to cease and desist in any further tax business. he’s 81 years old so they aren’t prosecuting the tax preparer.
I am not the one under investigation, youre making this assumption is you keep saying "you". it’s someone else not me understand? he’s a tax evader a drug dealer and I am wondering when the IRS will arrest him, the CI will not tell me anything other than that the case has been referred.
The tax preparer is only half the problem, the guy I’m referring to IS cheating his taxes willingly and knowingly. His tax preparer just helped him out. He’s not the innocent bystander you might make him out to be, he’s committing fraud and knowingly committing fraud. It’s been over a year now and I am just wondering when he will get arrested/indicted. So I guess the case is still under investigation…

What tax deductions do I have as a makeup artist?

I’m not having too much luck researching on the internet what tax deductions are used by makeup artists. Any tips or idea where I can find this information other than the obvious (tax preparer)? Thanks in advance :)
I am 1099. I am just interested in knowing the categories that are legit and available for deductions. Thanks!
