Reductions for Self-Employment Tax?

I’ve been filling out the tax forms, and I worked as an independent contractor last year AND had a different job using a W2. I’ve figured out the taxes for the W2 job, and I think I’ve completed the taxes for the independent contractor job (using 1099-MISC and Schedule C). I’m just wondering it there are any deductions that can be applied to the self-employment tax. I’ve already made my deductions on business related expenses (car expenses, supplies, unpaid debt owed to me), but I was wondering if there’s anything else. I am eligible for the Lifetime Learning Credit, but from what I understand, that’s only deductible for the W-2 job.

Is there a way to claim dependents or exemptions from self-employment tax? I have two exemptions. If not, why is it that self-employment tax doesn’t use exemptions?

I know it’s a lot of questions…just trying to figure things out. Thanks!
The instructions provided by the IRS says to deduct any unpaid debts owed to you. Once they are paid, you add it to your income in the year they are paid IF paid.

Tax deductions: Section 179 election for married filing jointly?

My wife and I are filing jointly. I work in a ‘traditional’ employment scenario – w2, salary, etc. She a musican with a mix of self employment, 1099, and W2 work. As such, she can deduct a musical instrument purchase, expensing it all in one year under section 179. This deduction will exceed her earnings. By filing jointly do we get to apply the deduction to our COMBINED income? My job is unrelated to the music business, though I do help her run her business. I’m hoping that this ‘large’ purchase will offset our combined income and tax liability.

Thanks for reading!

My boss still hasn't paid for my tax deductions so I can get my w2?

I’m a secretary and I’m the only employee that he pays and takes taxes out. He pays everyone else cash. I’m the one that figures up my check each week and my tax deductions. The total he needs to pay is somewhere around 0 (I’ve only been there a few months), but he’s yet to pay it. His business is in debt right now and he’s been taking more money home than usual. His bank account is overdraft, he owes other businesses money, and when I ask when he will pay so I can get my W2, he says "Whenever we get some money in"… but when we get money in, it goes to something else. I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to be rude or anything because I desperately need my job, but I desperately need my W2, too. My roommate is moving out this month and I’ve got to get bills switched over, plus by new furniture.. I’ve explained all this to him and he just says "Whenever we get some money in"

Is there anything I can do or do I just have to wait?

Whatever your reasons, there are some things consider when choosing a new CPA. Season filing fee is ours and the ideal, the search started well before that period year. The conclusion is that the sooner you start, the better, because good relationships have a chance to develop before it is time to decide!

Accountants Overcome many difficulties in March or April to help a customer who is completely new. If you decide to occur in an accounting office public on 1 April, hoping to be first in line for the realization of the Schedule C and business tax (in addition to payroll and Statements 1099/1096) – think again. You're more than likely put the final waiting list and will probably have to request the postponement.

There are important issues that is beyond tax preparation. You need (and want) to find a professional who understands – especially – The type of business and understand your personal financial situation. You'll also want someone you comfortable. I found one of most important choices you make. You trust someone else with information that allows your company's assets and its problems. all confidentiality.

Choose a CPA with care. Most people start trying to ask business owners like-minded references, especially if they are in the same industry. For example, a restaurant owner wants an accountant with experience in restaurants and repair companies car you want someone with experience in auto repair … because their experience in this area is important.

Once you have to call names, make an appointment for the interview with this person. Do not be shy when it comes to an inquiry into aspects experience and history of the CPA. They occupy all their problems regarding their financial security. It is not uncommon to ask these issues.

Here are some good questions to ask –

Has anyone ever sued for malpractice?
Have you ever been reported malpractice?
Do you have references? Can you give me three?
When you call you ask the references: (1) How work accounts with them and (2) or are not satisfied with the service you receive.

Do I pay for the hours I'm going?

Or, a lump sum for services identified (rental)?

Need a screenshot? Is the seal is applied to my account of the extra money due?

I have a question about a tax on the 1099-C?

I try to do my own taxes and have a 1099-C (cancellation of debt, loans mortgage to be exact) anyway do not know where I can put this on my Form 1040?

You may have no taxable income of 1099C, but you must keep in mind that in his statement. The question is whether or not they were creditworthy at the time of the cancellation of debt. Just the taxes on debt forgiveness to the extent they were solvent. For example, if debt relief was $ 10,000, but only worth $ 5,000, you would be subject to tax in this amount. A lock is complex and may have other legal arguments, in addition to insolvency. There five situations in which a debt is not canceled must be reported as income. Bankruptcy – the debt was discharged through bankruptcy. Insolvency – your debts exceed its assets when the debt was settled or deemed uncollectible. the debt is an allowable expense agriculture. The actual debt is due to some loss of business property. Approval of debt management has been treated as a gift ($ 10K You mother and she said: "Do not worry darling, we consider it a gift"). If you insolvent should explain to the IRS on your tax return. You can fill out IRS Form 982: Reduction of tax attributes due to discharge debt or attach a detailed letter to your return explaining the calculation of total debt and assets. Not addressing the 1099C will result in a tax assessment by the IRS for an amount over $ 600, plus interest. This is likely to occur 12-18 months after the filing of the IRS matches information reported to them with what is on your tax return. Form 982 is linked below.
