The tax man cometh so you can pay for the "free health care" – thoughts on these proposals?

— Broaden the 1.45-percent Medicare tax on earned income to “passive income,” which could include money from capital gains, rental properties and businesses that do not require direct participation. This could raise 0 billion.
— Levy a five-percent surtax on individuals who earn more than 0,000 and couples that make million.
— Tax health benefits at a higher level than had been considered. Two scenarios are in play. Taxing plans worth more than ,300 for a family and ,300 for an individual could raise 0 billion. Increasing the cut-off to plans worth more than ,000 would bring billion.
— Capping the tax break on itemized deductions at 28 percent, as President Barack Obama had proposed, or freezing the top deduction rate at 35 percent when the Bush tax cuts expire in 2010. The first scenario would raise 8 billion, while the second would collect billion.
— Issue tax credit bonds to pay for the proposed Medicaid expansion, raising billion.
— Charge fees to pharmaceutical manufacturers, bringing in as much as billion, and insurance providers, raising billion.
– Raise taxes on sodas and sugary drinks. A 3-cent hike could pick up billion, and a 10-cent hike could make 0 billion. This one already appears out of favor: Many senators have specifically ruled out the sugar tax, and a Senate Democratic source said it was the one option that was clearly not gaining traction with committee members.

A sugar tax! Damn British! Damn the Tyrant King George! No taxation without representation!
Just tax the churches to pay for the health care, they use a good amount of the commons and are more politically active then ever. Can I give to a select few and not pay taxes?
I would like to pay more taxes. I’d rather pay more taxes and live in an environment conducive to having a much higher salary because my employer isn’t saddled with paying for my expensive and crappy health-care,
So you bet: pay me more and tax me silly, that’s how I roll. You can call me unamerican from your trailer park if you want.
Now where have I seen this before:

That’s why it’s not free. People will pay into it just like in Europe.
Sugar tax. Haha. I remember in debate, we used to fund everything with a toilet paper tax. Didn’t work then. Don’t think it’ll work now. Only alcohol & tobacco beeeotches.
fees, levvying surtaxes, caps on itemized deductions: I love how creatively they phrase "raising taxes." LOL. A quarter of my paycheck gets sucked up by the IRS every year. Sucked up and gone forever. I hate paying Taxes. I do. I will always complain. Uncle sam needs to learn how to spend his dime WISELY. I don’t like how round his numbers are. It’s bad buisness. THE US involved itself in buisness by bailing out wall street. If the US is going to be a buisness, they need to AT LEAST use discretion like a buisness or they will never compete with private insurers. If I went to my company and said, "I plan to spend $10,000 on various marketing expendatures" they’d laugh in my face and kick me out of the conference room. If I itemized it and said I was spending "$9,457.05" on this, this, and this to pursue a marketting campaign that would bring in "569,854" minimum in revenue. Then maybe they will listen. Until congress brings a bill with a price tag that is itemized and combed through TO THE DOLLAR, and can prove that the benefits significantly outweigh the costs. I will never take their proposals seriously. Urgh I hate taxes. I hate ranting. But I hate taxes more.
Ask me… To make a move toward national healthcare, they need to generate revenue by introducing something huge and taxing it. Huge as in significant. Huge like a commodity: oil, gold, etc. But it would have to be a new commodity because they’re already taxing the commodities they have at their disposal to bits and they can’t afford to shake up already exsisting vendors & manufacturers. What they need to do is introduce a new crop. Something that would take off and be instantaniously popular. They need to grow & tax hemp. I’m not a pot head. I’m a realist. Pot heads, textile manufacturers, furniture manufacturers, fisherman, anyone and everyone who could benefit from hemp will gladly pay for healthcare if it means they can have their weed back. The only people who would complain are the current dealers who might have to go with factory rims insted of spinners.
We should all write a letter.
what;s the other option? jail? I’ll take jail
