JACKSONVILLE, Florida (Reuters) – Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney said on Saturday his 3.4 billion U.S. economic stimulus plan would rescue an economy on the "tipping point" of recession. His plan foresees 1.4 billion in stimulus to corporate America in measures that include permanently reducing the corporate tax rate to 20 percent from 35 percent over two years and allowing businesses to depreciate the value of new equipment purchases faster.

McCain has voiced apprehension over proposals for temporary tax cuts and more spending as suggested by many Democrats and Republicans, saying they result in additional strains on resources. McCain has instead proposed cuts in corporate taxes from 35 percent to 25 percent, extension of Bush’s tax cuts, and elimination of the Alternative Minimum Tax, which was enacted to prevent wealthy taxpayers from using many deductions to avoid federal income taxes.
so not only does it seem they favor big business but it is actually their beleive that it is the best way to adress our economic issues.

i now understand how that 0.00 a year that the bush tax cuts have saved me is really due to the added economic growth due to the billions in tax credits given to oil corporations, who have used those credits to help keep the price of food, fuel and transportation down…… due to their brilliant development and research programs and the republican led business revival these oil giants some how managed to see historic profit margins. thanks to those wonderful incentives and republican management of the economy we have seen millions of jobs created
(minimum wage service sector jobs, which don’t come with a pension or 401k or health insurance….)
to make up for the higher pay industrial jobs which have been lost.

i was wrong, i don’t understand how i missed how much the wonderful job done by our leadership in washington had done for us

Almost a rhetorical question. Republicans tend to be more conservative, and conservative values favor business.

But I’m disappointed that Democrats emphasize helping the "middle class," and no longer talk about the poor. Of course, they’ll get more votes and more financial backing from the middle class than from poor people. However, it suggests that politicians in both parties have now accepted it as a truism, that people vote only on the basis of self-interest.

  2. vote_usa_first says:

They do, and so do the democrats, because both want nothing but a larger government.

    When the government costs about
    $3,000,000,000,000.00 each year to operate
you cannot claim that big business is not the main
    benefactor in such bloated bureaucracy

Every dollar of that is taken by the people.

If the government was a smaller, more constitutional size, estimates show it would cost about half. This would leave a ton of money available not only for the economy, but the normal people. Most importantly, it would help to maintain value of the dollar which greatly effects average people.

Right now democrats want to do nothing but expand that 3 trillion dollar government, just as the neocons do. This creates more debt, and devalues the dollar, which effects you and me, and the normal people the most. Big business is not effected by this, because they have interest gaining options to stay above the devaluation of the dollar.

The best thing that can happen for the working family, is for the dollar to regain its value, and the income tax and the IRS to be abolished (which can only be done by eliminating unconstitutional government programs).

that’s the reason I would not ever vote for republican… they don’t care about the struggeling families they just want to line there own pockets!! sad that it’s that way but it’s what they are known for!!

  4. affraidofamericans says:

It "seems" that way because it is that way.

  5. satanhannity says:

Because Republicans are fat, greedy b***ards and inbred bible thumpers who have been gulled into voting against their economic interest- or both.

  6. Marcus S says:

Because if there were no big businesses there would be no small businesses and there would be no working families. Why don’t we all just work for the government, they can supply us all a house, car and food. That way no one everything is fair, no matter if you work harder than the next person you get exactly the same. Doesn’t sound to much like what our founding fathers had in mind.

  7. Cookie Monster says:

I dont quite understand your point. Bush cut taxes on the middle class. Are you saying that not only do your taxes have to be cut, but anyone who has more money than you must be PUNISHED and then you will be happy? Things are not black and white as you try to portray. Corporate America, the economy and working class families are all intertwined. Please quit buying into the dem strategy of dividing America with class warfare. It is sad to read the other posters on here. All sound bytes but no substance.

Because economic conservatives tend to favor the trickle down theory.

  9. beth says:

Because republicans are stuck in the past, they’re traditionalists. They believe, without question of right or wrong, what they were taught and learned as children.
Traditionally, big money and government use each other to stay in power. Unfortunately, this still occurs today.

That’s what politics is all about – listen to the lobbyists and be on their payroll. Listen – you voted them in on all sorts of false promises. Once they are in they drop those who voted them in and don’t give a shit about anybody but their own enrichment.

  11. thenightscribe says:

From whom do you think the working family get their paychecks? From the big businesses. Hurt the big business and you hurt the working man who relies on the success of the big business. Read up on what happens to the economy and working class families when liberals go after business and tax them to death…the unemployment skyrockets, as is what is going on right now in California.

As for "the "rich" as you call them, the top 50% of wage earners pay 96.03% of income taxes.

You have GOT to stop buying into the politics of class envy liberals try to feed you. It hurts everyone.

they do!!!!!!!!!!!! that’s why most rich people are republicans!!!!!!

  13. Claude D says:

WHAT !!!!!!! All candidates throw out all kinds of figures with no proof to back them up, don’t fall into that numbers trap.
First thing we need to do to fix this broken country , is term limits for all members in Congress and Senate, max of 2 terms just like the president. we need to get those useless pork barrel spenders out of there, that alone will save billions upon billions of dollars per year.
this election year we need change and that change is not a democrat that will increase the size of government, that has to be paid for by huge tax increases.
We need to put in Candidate Huckabee with his true moral values, he will gain Us respect from a lot of Countries.then before his first term is complete the economy will balance it self out.

  14. jm1970 says:

    Because they do!!!!!!!

Here’s the thing, this country has HUGE bills…and not just because of all the "welfare and poor slugs who should get jobs or the illegals."

We owe TONS of money for this war….anyone who speaks of cutting taxes right now is just plain STUPID.

We have a HUGE bill to pay and the rich people are gonna have to cough up some dough to pay for their guy’s war…even if you slash education, stop welfare all together, and never help another poor child again.

It would have been a hell of a lot cheaper if Cheney and Bush had just paid Risk in the situation room.

The republicans you have today is a mixed variety of disenchanted democrats and independents. There is widely held belief by the republicans that if we let them make and keep all the money they will let some trickle down to the rest of us.When you have all the money you want the financial problems of the average American doesn’t matter to you. Most republicans see themselves a the privileged class. The rest of us are the peasants of society. We just don’t count to them.We are the problem classes.

  16. vtjames7433 says:

the poor already pay NO taxes- NONE- the bottom 40% pay none at all and if we have kids we get other peoples money back in the form of earned income and child tax credits. The top 5% pay 60% of the federal taxes and so forth
Who do you work for? Corporations supply jobs and products. The more expensive it is to do business, the less jobs and less affordable the products. Businesses are not fleeing America because they are getting over, they are fleeing because they are getting the shaft- and oh, who is a shareholder? EVERY person with a retirement fund!!!
The US has one of the highest corp tax rates in the world. While other industrialized countries have been cutting their rates for the past 10 yrs but not the US. With state taxes calculated in, the avg corp tax rate in the US is 40%- Just the federal alone is 35%- Canada has been dropping its corp tax rate as has Germany and many more.
I think more people would benefit from taking 2 or 3 economics courses because most of what you all say is emotion driven and runs 100% contrary to reality.

Anyways, if you want jobs and economic growth, cut the corp tax rate and reduce the excessive regulations and it will happen. Dont do it and you will continue to see jobs move over seas

One republican candidate wants to cut back big government -programs that don’t work any way-get rid of the IRS-stop sending aid to countries-take care of our own instead-bring our troops home. [ Wonder how much richer halliburton and blackwater have become in the last 5 years.] No patriot act-no national ID-closed borders. Check out more at
